Upgrade your plan
How upgrading works, when you're charged, proration rules, and what to do if your card is declined mid-upgrade.
Updated
On this page
Upgrading gives you access to new features immediately. Here's exactly what happens.
The upgrade flow
- Go to Dashboard → Billing → Change plan.
- Pick the target plan (Developer or Agency).
- Click Upgrade to {plan}.
- If you're on Free, you'll be redirected to Stripe Checkout to enter payment details. If you already have a subscription, you'll see an inline confirmation.
- Confirm the charge.
What you're charged
If you're upgrading from a paid plan to a higher-tier paid plan (e.g., Developer → Agency) mid-period:
- Stripe calculates the prorated difference between what you've paid for the current period and what the new plan costs.
- You're billed that difference immediately.
- At your next renewal (unchanged date), you'll be billed the new plan's full annual rate.
If you're upgrading from Free (no existing subscription):
- You're billed the new plan's full annual price up front.
- Your renewal date is set to one year from today.
Feature unlock
The moment the payment succeeds, all features of the new plan are available. No logout/login required. The dashboard refreshes and previously-greyed-out buttons become active.
What if my card is declined?
The upgrade attempt shows an error, you stay on your current plan, and nothing is charged. Stripe may flag the attempt as a pending_update — you can retry with a different card or contact support.
What if I had a scheduled downgrade pending?
If you had previously scheduled a downgrade (e.g., Agency → Developer at period end) and now you're upgrading back to Agency, the scheduled downgrade is automatically cancelled. You'll see a confirmation on the change-plan page saying "Scheduled downgrade cancelled — you'll stay on Agency."
Receipts and invoices
After a successful upgrade, Stripe sends a receipt email to your account address. Manage GPL also generates a PDF invoice stored in your account; see Download an invoice PDF.
